Architects Morey Smith were commissioned to redesign the reception floors of the large empty office block at 200 Aldersgate in the City of London; the previous tenant was Clifford Chance who had relocated to Canary Wharf. The building was in need of an internal and external face lift to encourage new businesses to move in.
There were two reception halls, both leading up to a first floor common area. These rooms were stylishly upgraded with interesting new materials and designs. Engineered floorboards with a high gloss finish clad all the lift frontages; lacquered panels built up of varying thicknesses of timber blocks covered walls; entrances with great light arches in back-painted glass and many other elevations were clad in leather panels, each with characteristic patterns of rift or fault veins running through them. The café area had a large acid-etched glass screen shielding the end grain oak wall and soffit seating area.
